The key to a successful installation is the initial design of the
ground-loop. GRTI believes that the ground-loops should be designed
to handle the thermal load of the building, taking into account the actual thermal
conditions of the ground-loop site location.
Due to the years of experience in GeoExchange applications, GRTI offers the design (mechanical) engineer several design assistance options:
Fees for each service will vary and will be based on the square footage of the building being designed. Complete Ground-Loop DesignGRTI can assist the mechanical engineer by providing a precision ground-loop design that is matched to the load of the building. If provided in conjunction with the Formation Thermal Conductivity Test and Analysis, GRTI will guarantee that the long-term performance of the ground-loop will meet the building loads as supplied by a Professional Engineer. GRTI can supply any or all of the following:
Through GRTI's design process, only the highest quality materials with proven history will be specified. GRTI will focus on selecting materials that provide long-term trouble free performance and environmental protection. As an example, when specifying Vertical Backfill Materials; if that particular state requires bentonite, then only those materials that have been certified by NSF, International and comply with the permeability guidelines prescribed by the EPA will be considered. Ground-Loop Design EducationGRTI will work with the mechanical engineer and help them to understand how to develop a ground-loop design and assist in writing the specifications. GRTI will recommend and, if needed, supply a software package that has proven to be the most accurate program commercially available. GRTI will also educated the software operator in running this program. Design education can be provided in conjunction with a Complete Ground-Loop Design. Existing Design ReviewGRTI can assist the mechanical engineer by reviewing an existing design prior to its final completion. Our experience in this field offers the lesser experienced engineer a "sounding board" for their ideas and decisions. GRTI can assist in avoidance in costly mistakes that can equate to system failure or system over-design (which will lead to unsatisfied system owners or high initial costs).
